Not tonight asshole
An alarm goes off in the night — a possum has been raiding the food Mersh puts out for the strays. He comes out of bed swearing, fires a long burst across the yard with a hand-lettered BLAM BLAM behind it, and is told the burglar will not be back. The last panel shows the possum unharmed, eating, and laughing about it.
Seven panels. A row of small night panels builds the alarm, then a wide panel gives the whole width to the muzzle flash and the lettering. The strip then undercuts itself with two quiet panels, the last a close-up of the animal.
Deep ultramarine and violet through the night against the cadmium orange of the flash and magenta in the lettering. The possum is painted pale against the dark.
Dark flat washes for the night with the flash brushed in long rays over the top. The lettering is outlined and filled by hand and allowed to break the panel edge.
