Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Seven watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — red canyon walls under towering cumulus, a wide green plain running to a flat horizon, dark tree masses, and a coastal thumbnail.
Two large studies hold the lower half and five smaller ones the top. The canyon study crops the rock hard at the left edge so the cloud opens through the gap; the plain opposite has nothing in it but distance.
Terracotta, rust and plum in the canyon against cerulean and bone. The plain is sage, olive and dove — almost colourless beside it, and placed there deliberately.
The rock is laid as flat facets with every edge dried hard, and the cloud painted round rather than lifted. The plain is dragged in long horizontal pulls stamped into while damp.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, seven studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
