Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A dozen watercolour sheets spread across a studio table with the rubber stamps RAY and PATRICK beside them — red cliffs over a lagoon, a lily pond, a surfer on a green shore, a banded sunset and more.
The sheets overlap in loose rows running away from the viewer. The two largest face the camera square: a cliff and lagoon above, a lily pond below, the first all horizontal bands and the second a scattered field with no horizon at all.
The lagoon sheet sets scarlet and crimson cliffs against jade and emerald water — the hottest thing on the table. The pond below is its opposite: indigo and bottle green with small pink flowers.
Opaque and layered, each sheet built from short separate strokes with nothing blended. The lily pads are stamped as single flat touches and the flowers put in last on dry paint.
Watercolour and gouache on paper, a dozen or more works. A studio photograph of a body of work laid out on the table, not a single picture.
Along the lower edge of several sheets, raypatrick, stamped in small spaced letters.
