Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Four watercolour studies on a sketchbook page — a rider on horseback crossing desert scrub, a rocky lake shore, and two views of a road running back through green farmland.
The four are ruled out and overlap slightly. Three are landscape views built on a receding road or shore; the rider at the upper left is the only one with a figure, and it is also the only upright.
Ochre, tan and sage through the desert study against a sky of cobalt and dove. The two road studies are emerald, olive and violet, and the lake study the coolest — teal, slate and bone.
Opaque and quick, with the foliage stamped in separate loaded touches and the roads dragged in single pale pulls. The rider is built from four or five strokes and no drawing.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, four studies on one page, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
