Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Around twelve watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — a snow peak above a scree slope with dark firs, a harbour below steep green hills with fishing boats, a river between wooded ridges, and smaller landscape thumbnails.
Two large studies take the left page and two the right, with a row of small boxes above and below them. The firs in the upper left study are the only strong verticals anywhere on the spread.
Rose, apricot and lilac through the snow slope — unusually warm for a mountain — against near-black firs. The harbour studies are olive, bottle green and slate, much colder.
The scree is stamped in hundreds of small separate touches of broken colour over a dry wash, while the hills opposite are laid as flat wet masses that bleed into one another.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, around twelve studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
