Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Five studies across a sketchbook spread — daffodils and foliage, a flower group, coastal cliffs, a rocky shore, and a sheet of pure colour swatches — with brushes and a paintbox below.
The studies are ruled out in two rows with the swatch panel taking the lower right. The two flower studies are read close and flat with no space in them; the two landscapes beside them are all distance.
The flowers run cadmium yellow, coral and cream against a near-black ground. The landscapes are ochre, violet and teal. The swatch panel carries rose, orange, yellow and green laid as bare strokes.
The flower studies are painted round rather than drawn, the dark ground brought right up to each petal. The swatches are single loaded pulls of unmixed pigment, put down to test the box rather than to depict anything.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, five studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
