Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A loose watercolour of a shoreline at dusk lying across an open sketchbook, the page beneath carrying two pencil figure studies of a man grappling with a crocodile.
The watercolour sits upper left, tipped off square, and the pencil drawings run beneath and to the right of it. The sheet divides the frame on a diagonal, so the two works are read one after the other rather than together.
The watercolour runs bottle green, oxblood and burnt umber at the left against turquoise and pale lilac at the right, with one seam of cadmium yellow where the two meet. The pencil work is bare graphite on white.
The watercolour is flooded wet and tipped so the colour has run in vertical streaks the whole depth of the sheet, and nothing has been corrected. The drawings beside it are fast contour line with almost no shading.
Watercolour on paper and graphite in a spiral-bound sketchbook. A studio photograph of two separate works, not one picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
