Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Around ten watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — a great dark tree over a lawn with an egret, an alpine valley with a slope of pink flowers, a boulder-strewn river, aspens, and smaller mountain thumbnails.
The tree study at the upper right and the alpine valley at the lower left are the two large boxes and sit diagonally opposite, with a column of narrow thumbnails running between them. The valley is the only study with a foreground worked in detail.
Bottle green and slate through the tree, against the valley's magenta and rose flower slope — the most saturated passage on the page. The thumbnails are cooler, teal and lilac.
The tree is flooded dark and dragged downward so the colour streaks like rain, while the flower slope is stamped in hundreds of small separate touches over dry paint. Two opposite methods on one spread.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, around ten studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
