Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Nine watercolour studies ruled across a sketchbook spread — a London street with Underground roundels and a crowd on the pavement, a sunset over water through bare trees, a cumulus study, and six smaller landscapes.
The two largest studies take opposite corners, the city scene upper left and the winter lake upper right, with a column of three small boxes between them. The cloud study fills the lower left and is the only one with no land in it at all.
The street study is slate, plum and oxblood with two crimson roundels — the only hard red on the page. The lake study is its opposite: gold and amber sky over ultramarine water with a near-black treeline.
The architecture is drawn into with the point of the brush over dry wash, while the landscapes are laid wet and left. The crowd is a row of separate dark touches with no drawing at all.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, nine studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
