Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Five watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — black volcanic cliffs, a towering cumulus over a green ridge, a second cloud study above a bay, a palm against a town at dusk, and two sunflower heads seen close.
Four large boxes meet at the centre of the spread with a fifth tucked into the lower right. Three are built around a single great cloud; the sunflower study abandons distance altogether and fills its box with two flat discs.
Cobalt, slate and pewter through the cloud studies, against bottle green ridges. The sunflowers are cadmium yellow and bone — the only hot colour anywhere on the spread.
The cloud is laid as flat wet masses left to dry at their own edges and never lifted, and the volcanic study at the upper left is almost monochrome, flooded black over grey.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, five studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
