Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Seven studies across a sketchbook spread — a grey wash interior of a stable, a sunlit street of coloured shopfronts, a green valley with a road, violet mountains above a lake, and a large study of trees on a flat meadow.
The meadow study takes the whole lower left at size and the rest are ranked above and to the right. It is built on one long level horizon with three tree masses placed along it at uneven intervals — nothing else.
Emerald, chartreuse and sap green through the meadow with a cobalt and lilac sky. The street study at the top is the odd one out, all coral, lemon and apricot; the stable beside it is pure grey.
The meadow is flooded wet and the tree masses dropped into it so they bleed at their lower edges, then the lit grass is dragged across in dry strokes. The grey interior is a single tonal wash with no colour at all.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, seven studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
