Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Four watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — surf breaking round a black rock, a stand of bare trunks against green, an autumn lane running to a distant spire, and a shed with a corrugated roof under high cloud.
Four large boxes, two to a page, with no thumbnails. Two are built on a receding path or shore and two are frontal; the lane study is the only one with a vanishing point in it.
Ultramarine and viridian in the surf; the lane study opposite runs cadmium yellow, apricot and coral in the autumn foliage. The shed is cerulean, bone and rust.
Wet and loose, with the rock dropped in black against a still-damp sea so the edges feather. The autumn trees are stamped in separate loaded touches and the lane left as dry bare paper.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, four studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
