Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Six watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — a long dark ridge under heavy cloud, a suburban drive with parked cars, a green house behind trees, a cloud study over a flat horizon, and a woman carrying a board at the lower right.
The ridge study runs the full width of the upper left and is the largest; the rest are ranked below and to the right. Every one puts the horizon low and lets weather or foliage take the upper half.
Slate, plum and bottle green through the ridge study — nearly monochrome. The suburban studies are sage and dove, and the figure at the lower right is the only warm note, sienna against green.
Flat wet masses dropped onto damp paper and allowed to merge, with the trees and cars stamped over them when dry. The figure is four or five loaded touches and no drawing.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, six studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page with the paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
