Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Eight watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — a crimson butte above a green flat, a large banded sunset taking the lower left, a pale coastal study down the right, and four small boxes between.
The sunset study is the largest and has no object in it at all — only bands. Above it the butte study sets a hard vertical wall against open ground, so the page holds one picture of structure and one of pure colour.
The butte runs crimson, oxblood and cadmium orange against cerulean. The sunset beneath is magenta, rose, scarlet and lemon in stacked bands, and the coastal study at the right is its opposite — jade, bone and sap green.
The sunset is flooded band on band wet into wet with faint pencil construction still showing through it. The butte is laid as flat facets with every edge dried hard.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, eight studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
