Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A watercolour of a bluff above a green flat under heavy cloud, lying on a table with two further sheets cropped at the edges of the frame.
The principal sheet sits centrally and square to the frame while the others are cut by the top corners, so the eye settles on it. Within it the bluff runs the full width and the sky takes the upper half.
Dove, pewter and lavender through the rock and cloud, with one band of deep cobalt along the top. A thin strip of emerald and ochre runs along the base, the only warm colour in the sheet.
Broad transparent washes laid edge to edge and left to dry as hard-shaped facets, with the darks dropped into damp paper so they spread. A line of small dark marks is stamped along the base when dry.
Watercolour on paper. A studio photograph of several sheets together, with this one the principal subject.
No signature legible at this scale.
