Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Two watercolour cloud studies on a sketchbook spread — a heavy violet bank over a dark treeline at the left, and a paler one over green hills at the right.
Two upright boxes side by side, each nine tenths sky. The land is reduced to a band along the bottom of both, and the whole comparison is between one weather and another.
Plum, slate and cobalt break through the left-hand cloud with a seam of gold at the horizon. The right is lighter and cooler — lilac, dove and turquoise over hills in sap green and olive.
Built from dozens of short overlapping strokes of transparent colour laid wet on dry, so each cloud mass is a weave of separate marks rather than a single wash. The trees are stamped in last.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, two studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and tube colours used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
