Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Around fourteen watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — a wooded riverbank with the water running between boulders, a violet peak above a green valley, a wide estuary at low tide, and ten small landscape thumbnails.
Thumbnails crowd the upper left in two tight rows, and three large studies take the rest of the spread. All three are built on a band of water running across the middle distance, which is what the small boxes were testing.
Emerald, olive and bottle green dominate, with the water in slate and bone. The mountain study at the lower right is the only one with violet in it, and the estuary the only one with gold.
Dark foliage dropped into damp washes so it spreads, with the water left as reserved pale bands and the rocks stamped over them when dry. Quick throughout; nothing is returned to.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, around fourteen studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
