Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Four watercolour studies of open farmland ruled out on one sheet — towering cumulus over a flat field, a stand of trees in evening light, and two smaller studies cropped at the edge.
A grid of four seen at an angle so the sheet recedes. Every study puts the horizon in the lower third and gives the rest to sky; the trees in the near study are the only verticals on the page.
Cerulean and dove in the cloud over fields of sap green and olive. The lower study is cooler and lighter — lilac sky, emerald trees, a yellow-green field catching the last light.
Flooded skies with the cloud reserved as bare paper, and the fields laid in long horizontal pulls stamped into while damp. The trees are single loaded touches put in last.
Watercolour on paper in a sketchbook, four studies on one page. A studio photograph of a page rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
