Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Six watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — a large rust and gold hillside above dark trees, a blue canyon, a wooded lane with parked cars, a wide plain under violet hills, and a small sunset swatch.
The hillside study takes the whole left page and is the only one worked at size; the others are ranked down the right and across the foot. Its hill runs corner to corner so nothing in it is level.
Cadmium orange, rust and oxblood through the hillside with chartreuse where the sun catches it — the most saturated study in this run of pages. The others are cool: cobalt, sage and violet.
Laid wet and worked hot colour into hot colour so the hill has no edges inside it at all, with the dark trees stamped along its foot once dry. The small sunset is four bands and nothing else.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, six studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
