Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Around fourteen watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — a green pali above turquoise water, boulder shores, red mesas under cloud, and a large study of grey crags above a dark meadow.
Four large boxes hold the corners and a block of eight thumbnails fills the upper right. The two biggest studies both put a wall of rock across the top and a field of scattered boulders below, so the page is one problem worked twice at size.
Slate, dove and lavender through the rock, against emerald and bottle green in the growth. The mesa study at the lower left is the only warm one — ochre and oxblood under cerulean.
Each boulder is a single flat facet of colour with a hard dried edge and a dark stroke beneath it, repeated dozens of times. Nothing is modelled; the whole surface is made of separate shapes.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, around fourteen studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
