Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Two watercolour landscape studies on one sheet — a green headland above a flowering coastal flat, and red mesas under heavy cloud with a track running in from the left.
The two are ruled one above the other and both are extreme horizontals. The upper gives almost nothing to sky; the lower gives it two thirds, so the page sets a near view against a far one.
The upper study is emerald, chartreuse and cadmium orange laid in alternating bands — unusually hot for a coastal subject. The lower is cooler, with mesas in violet and vermilion under dove and lavender cloud.
Built from short horizontal strokes of opaque colour laid shoulder to shoulder, each left as its own mark. The flowering ground in both is stamped over dry colour and never blended.
Watercolour on paper in a sketchbook, two studies on one page. A studio photograph of a page rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
