Landscapes, Sunsets — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Two watercolour studies on a sketchbook page — a pale coastal flat with reef and shallow water above, and below it a sunset worked almost to abstraction in crimson, gold and indigo.
Both float free on the page with no ruled border, their edges left ragged where the wash stopped. The upper study is built on level bands; the lower has a ragged skyline of dark masses and is the more violent of the two.
The upper is sage, bone, teal and lilac — very light. The lower is its opposite: oxblood, crimson, cadmium orange and lemon over a foreground of indigo and near-black.
The lower study is flooded wet and worked hot colour into hot colour so nothing inside it has an edge, with the dark foreground dropped in last and allowed to bleed upward into the light.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, two studies on one page. A studio photograph of a page rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
