Landscapes, Sunsets — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A watercolour of a sunset sky in broken cloud with the white of the paper left as the lights, and a second cooler study cropped above it.
No horizon, no land and no object — the sheet is sky alone, read as ranks of cloud running to the lower right. The reserved whites are placed as deliberately as the colour and do most of the drawing.
Cadmium yellow and orange along the bottom rising through scarlet and rust to plum and periwinkle at the top. The second study above is cooler, with green and teal in it.
Flooded wet with each band left to dry at its own hard edge, and every light reserved as untouched paper rather than lifted out. Nothing is corrected anywhere.
Watercolour on paper, with a ruled pencil border. A studio photograph of a page with a second study above.
No signature legible at this scale.
