Landscapes, Sunsets — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A watercolour of a sunset reduced to vertical bars of fire — scarlet, orange and cadmium yellow against plum — on a sketchbook page, with a second cool study above it.
The principal study sits in the lower two thirds of the page, read as a field of vertical bands with no horizon and no object in it. The blue study above is cropped by the edge of the frame.
Crimson, vermilion and cadmium orange through the centre with lemon at the core, against deep plum and violet at the edges. Two black streaks run down the middle and are the only drawn marks.
Flooded wet and worked band against band so the colours bleed into one another at every join, with the darks dropped in while the sheet was still running. Nothing is reserved and nothing is corrected.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook. A studio photograph of two studies on a page, with this one the principal subject.
No signature legible at this scale.
