Landscapes, Sunsets — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A sunset at its last moment over a flat horizon, the land in full silhouette, with one small tree at the right edge.
A wide panoramic format with the land in the bottom quarter. The cloud runs in horizontal bars and the brightest passage sits dead centre, low down, where the sun has just gone.
Deep indigo and teal through the upper sky, dropping to crimson, vermilion and cadmium orange in the cloud bars, with a core of pale gold at the centre. The land is black.
Short loaded strokes laid in ranks, each one a separate touch of unmixed colour so red sits against blue with no transition. The paint stands off the surface across the whole sky.
Oil on canvas board. Heavy impasto; photographed on the studio bench among brushes.
Lower left, raypatrick, in red over the dark land, letters touching.
