Landscapes, Sunsets — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A long low sunset over flat country, the sun already gone, with a single dark tree at the right and a line of scrub along the horizon.
A wide panoramic format with the land in the bottom sixth. The cloud runs in horizontal ranks and the lit seam sits just above the horizon, running the full width.
Pewter and dove in the upper cloud with plum beneath, dropping to scarlet and cadmium orange at the horizon. The land is a dark green-black.
Broad flat strokes laid horizontally, the upper sky scrubbed thin so the canvas grain shows and the lit seam dragged last in heavier unmixed colour.
Oil on canvas board. Thin above, impasted along the lit seam; photographed on the easel ledge above the palette it was mixed on.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in green over the dark land, letters widely spaced.
