Landscapes, Sunsets — oil painting by Ray Patrick

An upright oil of the sun breaking through heavy cloud over still water, its light laid down the middle of the picture as a broken path, in a pale wood frame and mount.
Upright, with the horizon just above the middle and the cloud mass filling the top. The reflected light runs straight down from the sun to the bottom edge, dividing the water symmetrically.
Slate, pewter and bottle green through the cloud and water, with gold and cadmium orange only at the sun and its reflection. The lower third is nearly black.
Laid in short horizontal strokes of close-valued colour across the whole surface, with the light cut in as separate touches of unmixed gold. Nothing is blended.
Oil on board, in a mount and a pale wood frame. A studio photograph of the framed work hung on a wall.
Lower right, raypatrick, scratched into the paint.
