Landscapes, Sunsets — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

A road running west into the sunset with palms in silhouette, low houses on both sides, and a utility pole close at the left.
The road enters at the bottom and runs to a vanishing point just right of centre; the pole rises the full height at the left and is the only hard vertical. The cloud is ranked horizontally above.
Pale mint and cream in the upper sky, dropping through lilac and rose to cadmium orange and scarlet at the horizon. The road and houses are a flat violet-brown.
Flat opaque dabs laid in ranks, each a separate touch, so the sky shifts colour between strokes rather than within them. The pole is one unbroken vertical drawn over finished paint.
Gouache on paper, worked within a taped border — the masking is still in place at the edges. Matte and opaque.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in orange over the road, letters widely spaced.
