Landscapes, Sunsets — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

A banded sunset over a flat horizon with a single palm crown in silhouette at the lower right, painted on a long strip of paper.
An extreme horizontal. The sky is read as stacked bands converging on a core of gold just below the middle, and the palm is the only form crossing them — placed hard right so the rest of the strip is left open.
Teal and plum at the top dropping through oxblood and rust to cadmium yellow and gold at the core, then into violet below. The palm is a flat near-black.
Flat opaque strokes laid band against band with square ends and no blending, so the gradation happens between touches. The palm is stamped in last as one solid shape.
Gouache on paper, over a ruled pencil border, on a blue sheet. Photographed on the studio table.
No signature visible within the painted area.
