Landscapes, Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Two watercolour studies on a sketchbook spread — a long dark headland running into a pale sea under a heavy sky, and a narrower cloud study beside it with a green strip at its foot.
The large study takes the left page: the headland enters from the right as a dark wedge and the sea and sky open across the whole left, with almost no detail in either. The narrow study repeats the same idea at a quarter the size.
Plum, umber and slate in the headland against a sea of pale jade and bone. The sky is dove and lilac, and the small study adds a band of cobalt at the top and emerald at the foot.
Very wet and very few strokes — the headland is one loaded pass dragged downward and the sea two pale washes. Large areas of the sheet are left entirely bare.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, two studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and tube colours used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
