Landscapes, Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Four studies of waves across a sketchbook spread — a grey barrel drawn in ink, a cobalt wave under a dark sky, a sunset wave in orange and indigo, and a violet one breaking over a pale shore.
Four boxes, two to a page. All four hold the same shape — a wave running in from the left with its lip thrown forward — so the spread is one form painted four times under four different lights.
The upper left is nearly colourless, grey and bone. The others run cobalt and viridian, then cadmium orange over indigo, then lilac and violet. The series is a colour exercise on one subject.
Pen and wash in the first; the other three are pure watercolour, flooded wet with the foam reserved as bare paper. Each is a single sitting and none is corrected.
Watercolour with pen and ink in a spiral-bound sketchbook, four studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
