Seascapes, Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Nine watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — a beached canoe on a lake shore, a cliff coast with surf, a woman sitting on a tailgate, trees on a lawn, and a seated girl in white reading at a table.
Three columns of three. The cliff study at the centre is the largest and the only one with real depth; the two figure studies in the right-hand column are the only ones with people, and they bracket the page top and bottom.
Emerald, bottle green and olive dominate, with the water in cobalt and teal. The seated girl at the lower right is painted almost entirely in bone and dove and is the quietest passage on the spread.
Dark masses dropped into wet washes so they feather, with the rocks and boats stamped over them when dry. The figures are five or six loaded touches with no drawing beneath.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, nine studies on one spread, dated. A studio photograph of a page with the brushes and paintbox used, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
