Landscapes, Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Four watercolour studies across a sketchbook spread — red canyon walls under a burning sky, a yellow flat under a pale horizon, a green slope, and a large study of a wave breaking in a cold grey sea.
Four boxes of unequal size. The canyon study and the wave study are the two largest and sit diagonally opposite; both are built on a long diagonal, while the two small ones are flat bands.
Crimson, scarlet and cadmium orange in the canyon against indigo at its foot. The wave study below is the opposite — dove, lilac and slate with one hard cobalt core in the tube.
Flooded wet throughout, with spatter left on the surface in both large studies and the darks dropped into damp paper. The tube of the wave is the only passage painted round rather than into.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, four studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page rather than a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
