Landscapes, Seascapes, Surfing — gouache painting by Ray Patrick

A cove below sandstone cliffs, with a long clean wave peeling across it, and two surfers standing on the rocks at the left about to paddle out.
The shoreline sweeps in a deep curve from the lower left to the right edge, and the wave repeats that curve just outside it. The two figures are tiny and placed at the near end, which sets the scale of the whole bay.
Ochre and cream on the lit cliff against olive in its shadow. The water runs turquoise through emerald to deep teal, and the wet reef below is lavender, dove and rust.
Flat opaque planes with square ends; the wave's crest is a single unbroken white stroke running the full curve. The rocks are stamped in as dark marks over the wet sand.
Gouache on paper. Matte and opaque, with a white margin round the painted area; photographed clipped to the studio easel.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in orange over the reef, letters widely spaced.
