Landscapes, Seascapes, Surfing — ink painting by Ray Patrick

Two surfers walking out through a tunnel of trees toward the light, boards under their arms, with a wooden fence and the beach beyond the opening.
Built as an arch: the canopy closes the top and the trunks come down both sides, leaving a bright opening at the centre through which the figures are seen. The two surfers stand small and dead centre, holding hands.
A single blue, worked from near-black in the foliage to a pale wash in the opening. One stroke of red on the second figure's swimsuit is the only other colour in the picture.
Dense pen hatching throughout, laid in short parallel strokes that build the dark masses, with the leaf shapes struck in solid. The light at the centre is bare paper, reserved and untouched.
Pen and ink with a blue wash on paper. The drawing does the work; the wash sits beneath it as a flat tone.
No signature visible within the drawn area.
