Landscapes, Surfing, Seascapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A large watercolour of a river running between flowering banks, with a smaller study of a woman paddleboarding laid across it and more sheets fanned behind.
The large sheet runs corner to corner on a steep diagonal, its banks and water as parallel bands, so the whole picture is built on one slant. The small study lies square across it and interrupts that slant deliberately.
Cobalt and ultramarine in the water against banks of chartreuse, emerald and acid yellow-green, with small flecks of crimson. The inset study is quieter — teal water, a dark figure, a white board.
The banks are stamped in dozens of separate angular touches over dry colour so nothing merges, and the water is dragged in long diagonal pulls beneath them.
Watercolour on paper, several works. A studio photograph of sheets laid over one another, not a single picture.
Lower right of the small study, raypatrick, in dark brown; the large sheet signed along its lower edge in spaced letters.
