Landscapes, Seascapes, Sunsets — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A wave breaking under a burning sky, drawn into with pen over flooded colour, the whole sheet worked in hatching and flat black.
The wave runs as a diagonal from the lower left to the right edge with its lip at the centre. The sky above is stacked in bands and the foreground is a mass of black and hatched strokes, so the lit face of the wave is the only clear passage.
Scarlet, cadmium orange and gold through the sky, with the wave face in teal and cobalt. The foreground is flooded near-black with rust showing through it.
Wash first and pen after, the line used in long parallel hatching to pull the cloud and water into shape, with whole areas flooded solid black by brush. The spatter is left where it fell.
Watercolour with pen and ink in a spiral-bound sketchbook.
No signature visible within the drawn area.
