Landscapes, Seascapes, Sunsets — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Four watercolour studies of water and sky across a sketchbook spread — a long sunset striped across still water, a blue nocturne with a gold reflection, and two softer band studies beneath.
Four boxes with no horizon drawn in any of them. Every study is read purely as stacked horizontal stripes; the largest, at the left, carries thirty or more of them down the sheet.
The left study runs rose, sienna, teal and bottle green. The one beside it is ultramarine and indigo with a seam of cadmium orange; the two below are pale — rose, apricot and lilac.
Laid stripe against stripe with a loaded brush, each left to dry at its own hard edge, so the water is a weave of separate marks. Nothing is blended and no light is lifted.
Watercolour in a spiral-bound sketchbook, four studies on one spread. A studio photograph of a page with a second sketchbook of pen drawings above, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
