Landscapes, Seascapes, Sunsets — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A watercolour of a pier in silhouette against a sunset, the whole sheet flooded in scarlet, crimson and plum with one seam of gold on the water.
The pier runs in from the right and stops just past the centre, the only drawn thing in the picture. The sky is read as horizontal bands and the water below repeats them; there is no other structure.
Crimson, scarlet and magenta through the sky with plum and violet at the top corners. One band of cadmium yellow lies on the water beneath the pier and is the only light.
Flooded wet with the bands laid against one another and allowed to run, the pier stamped in last as a flat dark shape with its pilings drawn as single strokes.
Watercolour on paper in a sketchbook. A studio photograph with a sheet of colour tests above, which is not part of the work.
No signature visible within the painted area.
