Portraits, Landscapes, Sunsets — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

Two heads close together on a sketchbook page — a white-haired woman in blue eye make-up looking up and out, and a man at the left in shadow, both lit by a burning orange ground.
The two heads fill the whole spread and overlap, hers upper right and larger, his cropped by the left edge. She looks up out of the page and he looks down and away, so the two gazes cross without meeting.
Cadmium orange and scarlet through the ground, spattered and flooded, against hair in cobalt-shadowed white and flesh in ochre and rose. Her mouth and eyes are a hard ultramarine; the lower corner is plum and violet.
Wash first and pen after, the colour flooded freely and allowed to spatter across the whole sheet, with the drawing cut over the top in a dense black line that finds the features rather than outlining the heads.
Watercolour with pen and ink in a spiral-bound sketchbook.
No signature visible within the drawn area.
