Landscapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Two oil panels on a studio bench — a blue mesa above a pale flat, and a smaller study of a violet range at dusk.
The larger panel lies flat and square to the frame; the smaller sits behind it on the bench, tipped away. In the principal panel the mesa runs the full width as one unbroken mass and the flat below is empty.
Cobalt and ultramarine through the mesa against a sky of cerulean and white, with the flat in bone, rose and sage. The second panel is darker and carries magenta along its horizon.
Heavy impasto, the mesa laid in long horizontal pulls with the brush fully loaded and the foreground stroked in short broken marks. The board edges are painted white.
Oil on canvas board, two panels. A studio photograph of a pair of works on the bench, not a single picture.
No signature legible at this scale.
