Landscapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A small oil panel of a hedgerow under a pink evening sky, standing in a wooden display block, with an open children's-book sketchbook, brushes and a note reading Ahhhhh behind it.
The panel is an extreme horizontal. The hedgerow runs level across the lower third as an unbroken dark band and everything above it is sky; there is no incident in the picture at all.
Dusty rose and apricot through the cloud over a band of pale lilac, against a hedgerow of bottle green and slate. Nothing is saturated anywhere.
Laid in long horizontal strokes with a loaded brush, the cloud dragged so the colour beneath shows at the broken edges, and the hedge stamped in as one dark pass with the tops flicked up wet.
Oil on canvas board. A studio photograph with a sketchbook of children's-book illustration and the brushes used, which are separate works.
No signature visible within the painted area.
