Landscapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A wooded ridge above open farmland, with a dirt track running out of the foreground and cattle grazing in the fields below.
The ridge runs across the upper half and falls away to the right; the fields open below it and the track enters at the bottom and recedes to the left. Two small trees at the right set the scale.
Pale blue sky with cream cloud over a ridge of bottle green and indigo. The fields are gold, ochre and sap green; the track a warm dust pink.
The ridge is laid in broad diagonal strokes following its own slopes, so the paint direction is the landform's direction. The fields are dragged horizontally and the cattle are single dark flecks.
Oil on canvas board. Moderately loaded with the weave visible at the margins; photographed beside a landscape handbook by Yim Maukun.
Lower right, raypatrick, in ochre over the field, letters touching.
