Landscapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Four small oil panels of the high Sierra laid out on a table — a dark peak above a lake, a snow bowl with green meadow, firs standing over snow-covered boulders, and a long white ridge behind a flat.
Two rows of two with a brush laid between them. Each panel sets a mountain mass across the upper half against a flat foreground, and in three of the four a dark tree line marks the join.
Cobalt, violet and slate through the rock with snow in bone and lilac. The meadows below are emerald and chartreuse; the firs are a near-black bottle green.
Loaded and flat, the snow fields laid as single slabs of unmixed colour and the firs stamped over them as separate dark dabs. No blending anywhere in any of the four.
Oil on canvas board, four panels. A studio photograph of a group of works with the brush used, not a single picture.
Lower edge of each, raypatrick, scratched into the paint.
