Landscapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A grassy embankment above a road, with a large wind-bent eucalyptus at the centre, a low white building at the right, and a figure in high-visibility green on the verge.
The tree sits just right of centre and leans hard to the left, which sets the whole picture off its axis. The road runs across the bottom as a dark band and the bank rises behind it to a flat skyline.
A deep cobalt sky over grass in sap green and emerald, with the tree in bottle green and grey. The figure's jacket is a sharp chartreuse — the single brightest note and the only one that stops the eye.
The foliage is laid in short loaded strokes with gaps of sky between them; the grass is dragged in long diagonals following the fall of the bank. The figure is three marks.
Oil on canvas board. Moderately loaded with the weave visible; photographed on a sketchbook of pen drawings, which is beneath the work rather than part of it.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in violet over the road, letters widely spaced.
