Landscapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Four oil panels and two sketchbooks laid out on a table — a wide view of red mesas under cumulus, two suburban road studies with trees, a dark seascape, and sheets of pen figure drawings and graphite pots.
The large mesa panel holds the upper left and the smaller works are ranked below and to the right, overlapping the open sketchbooks. Every painted panel is a horizontal built on a level line; the drawings beside them are all diagonal movement.
Cobalt and lavender cloud over mesas in rust and ochre in the large panel. The road studies are emerald and cerulean; the seascape is plum and slate — the only cold picture in the group.
Thick and loaded in the paintings, the cloud laid in square-ended strokes and the foliage stamped in separate dabs. The pen drawings are pure contour with no tone at all.
Oil on canvas board and canvas paper, four panels, with two sketchbooks of pen and graphite drawings. A studio photograph of several works, not a single picture.
Lower edge of two of the panels, raypatrick, scratched into the paint.
