Landscapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

A wide coastal view in bright midday — sea along the horizon, a low bank of trees and scrub across the middle, and a dark tree standing at the right.
A long horizontal format, divided high: sky takes two thirds, the land a band at the base. The cloud runs in two ranks and the single tree at the right is the only form rising above the skyline.
A clean cerulean sky with white cloud, over a sea of pale blue-grey. The land runs olive and sap green with small notes of cream where buildings catch the sun.
Short horizontal strokes in the cloud, laid with a loaded brush and left with their edges showing. The band of trees is dabbed in quick dark marks and the whole lower strip is handled faster and thinner than the sky.
Oil on canvas board. Moderately thick, with visible brush ridges in the cloud; photographed on the easel above the palette it was mixed on.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in ochre over the land, letters widely spaced.
