Landscapes — oil painting by Ray Patrick

Two children walking away up a path in dappled shade, seen from behind, with a greenbelt opening to the left and a dense wall of trees closing the right.
The path runs from the bottom edge to the upper right and the two figures stand on it, small and central, with the whole left half given to open ground. The shadow of the trees falls across the path as a hard diagonal.
Bottle green and near-black in the canopy, against sunlit grass and a pale sand path. The children are in cobalt and cerulean, the only saturated colour in the picture and placed at its centre.
The canopy is laid in broad flat masses with no interior detail; the dappled light on the path is dabbed in short flat strokes of two or three values. The figures are a few loaded strokes each with no drawing beneath.
Oil on canvas board. Moderately loaded, the weave reading through the shadowed passages. Photographed on a desk over other work.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in grey-green over the path, letters widely spaced.
