Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A towering cumulus over a low industrial skyline, with palms and poles along the horizon and a flat strip of ground beneath.
A wide, shallow format, nine tenths sky. The cloud rises as one mass from the centre and spreads to both top corners; the skyline runs dead level beneath it and the palms punctuate it at intervals.
Cobalt and periwinkle in the breaks of blue with the cloud in cream, dove and a faint rose. The land is olive and sage; two small strokes of red mark buildings.
The cloud is laid in broad soft planes with their edges allowed to meet rather than cut, which is unusually blended for this group. The palms and poles are single thin verticals drawn last over dry paint.
Gouache over a watercolour ground on paper. Matte and opaque in the cloud, with thinner transparent passages at the lower edge.
Along the lower edge, raypatrick, in red over the land, letters widely spaced.
