Landscapes — watercolor painting by Ray Patrick

A eucalyptus seen from below against a clouded sky, with a tiled roof, a low wall and three palms at its foot.
Upright and narrow. The trunk rises the full height slightly left of centre and the canopy spreads across the top third; the buildings are compressed into a band at the very bottom.
Cobalt and periwinkle through the sky with white cloud, against a canopy of blue-green and olive. The roofs below carry coral and ochre — the only warm colour, and very small.
The canopy is dabbed in flat touches with gaps of sky left between them, so the leaves read against the blue rather than on it. The trunk and branches are single thin drawn strokes laid last.
Gouache over a watercolour ground on paper. Matte and opaque in the sky and leaves, with thinner transparent passages showing in the lower buildings.
Along the lower edge, in red over the wall, letters widely spaced and partly cropped.
